The Healthy Communities Collaborative teams have been nominated and short listed for this years NHS Stoke on Trent “Getting across the message” award. The team will find out on Tuesday if they have won the award for the creative and effective ways they have been getting the cancer message out in the local areas . Well done to all the teams for getting this far and fingers crossed you win!

The HCC teams met this month together to find out what each area has been doing to raise awareness. The teams have come up with some fantastic resources to help them get the cancer messages out in the local areas. The longton team have designed a ”what’s up Duck” game, which is like hook a duck but the ducks have signs and symptoms underneath.
Next month the HCC team are having a joint team meeting in Hanley to reflect on the achievements of the first year and to plan what the teams want achieve in the second year . Each team has been asked to design something for £5 which they can take out and about with them that can help them get the cancer awareness message across in a fun and interactive way.
The three HCC teams have now spoken to over 1,000 local people about the signs of breast, bowel and lung cancer and attended over 30 events.
Last week at the Smallthorne bingo group over 125 people took our leaflets and wanted to know all about bowel cancer screening programme. Rose did a great job speaking to people and got a round of applause at the end
The teams will be out and about at Morrison’s festival park on Thursday 19th August and have many more events planned over the next few months including the PCT AGM and the samba in Hanley Park on the 27th September.
